Houston Ranks #1 in Red-Light Fatalities

Red Lights

The National Coalition for Safer Roads (NCSR) has collected traffic collision data from all around the country, dated between 2004 and 2013. The organization’s aim was to figure out which cities have the most dangerous intersections, specifically in regards to car accidents caused by drivers running red lights and causing fatalities. The top-ten results are as follows:

  1. Houston
  2. Phoenix
  3. Los Angeles
  4. Las Vegas
  5. Chicago
  6. Miami
  7. Dallas
  8. Philadelphia
  9. Tucson
  10. Denver

The NCSR’s goal is to bring awareness of this serious safety hazard. Everyone needs to be responsible when behind the wheel, and it seems that many people in Houston need to learn this truth.

To avoid a dangerous traffic collision:

  • Obey traffic signals
  • Use the 3-second rule
  • Never drive while distracted (texting)
  • Never drink and drive
